Two New Advances in Surf and SUP Leashes Debut at SURF EXPO 2019

Kāohi Grip Leash improves board control with a Rail-Saver Handle
Paddle Belt secures SUP paddle for hands-free action

ENCINITAS, CA - Jan. 7, 2019 — This week at Surf Expo 2019 in Orlando, FL, Board Meeting USA introduces two innovative leashes to give board riders more control of their equipment in the water.  First, the Kāohi GRIP Leash revamps the standard surf or SUP leash with the addition of a rail-saver handle. This Kāohi “Grip” handle provides any board rider a comfortable and convenient means of controlling his/her board in the water.  Second, the Paddle Belt is a new style of leash to secure any SUP paddle. Paddle Belt offers SUP Surfers, SUP Hydrofoilers and SUP Fishermen the freedom to be hands free when it matters most: prone-paddling through white water, swimming after a lost board, or reeling in a fish.

Kāohi GRIP Leashes

“Kāohi” is Hawaiian for control, which is the distinguishing benefit of Kāohi GRIP Leashes. The Kāohi "GRIP" is a sturdy yet pliable neoprene rail-saver handle that is always in a perfect open position to easily grab hold, giving the waterman single-handed control of his board. Kāohi GRIP Leashes are available in both Straight Leash and Coil Leash styles, and are made in the USA from heavy-duty urethane cord with tied-end and swivel connections, with deluxe padded cuffs. The result is the ultimate surf leash.

“The Kāohi GRIP Leash is a practical and fresh improvement on a surfing essential,” said Roy Lundstedt, Board Meeting USA founder. “Safety is always a concern of surfers and SUP surfers. If you have a 10 foot board and a 10 foot long leash, there’s a 20 foot radius of potential danger.  With the Kāohi GRIP Leash, you can easily grab onto the Kāohi GRIP with one hand to hold your board close, so you’re in control and ready to get back in the line up. ”

Paddle Belt

The new Paddle Belt gives SUP surfers, SUP hydrofoilers and SUP fishermen freedom of movement and protection from losing a paddle.  Whether prone-paddling into position or casting a line, the Paddle Belt keeps your paddle safe when you need to be hands-free.

Losing your paddle is a waste of time, at best, and an expensive lost investment, at worst.

To avoid losing a paddle, the user snugs the Paddle Belt around his waist, then slips the paddle handle through the leash-loop and cinches the quick-slide mechanism tightly around the paddle handle. The paddle is secure, so the prone-paddling SUP surfer/hydrofoiler can let his paddle glide safely alongside behind, then release the paddle when ready to surf.  The SUP fisherman can keep his paddle close at hand so it can be reached without bending down, enabling easy repositioning and control of his SUP fishing board.

The Paddle Belt also saves effort when swimming after a break-away board.  “While SUP surfing on a 10-foot day at Hanalei Bay, Kauai, I lost my board. If you know that break, it meant I had a solid quarter-mile swim in,” said Roy Lundstedt, Board Meeting USA founder. “With my paddle attached to the Paddle Belt, I didn't have to wrestle a paddle while swimming, so I was able retrieve my board without getting exhausted.”
