Cielo Hammocks is a social organization that looks to alleviate poverty and promote gender equality through the manufacture and distribution of hammocks worldwide. “We are social impact entrepreneurs aware of the incredible economic inequalities that exist in Mexico,” says the group’s head Josefina Urzaiz. “That is why we have launched a group of organizations to bring about social change, break the poverty circle and promote gender equality”. Its task is to “preserve old Mayan customs and provide a way of creating income, entrepreneurship and innovation”.
The project focuses on artisans, one of the most vulnerable sectors in Mexico and Latin America. Its business model is what Josefina calls “holistic” in that it takes into account all aspects that affect the sector on a global level. It is also replicable and scalable, develops entrepreneurship and guarantees sustainability.
Cielo Hammocks is preserving old Mayan customs, providing a way of generating income, entrepreneurship and innovation. It has a direct impact on 3,000+ people and its scalable sustainable model guarantees its impact will continue to grow. "
