Leading Brands Open Their Doors to Celebrate NYCxDESIGN and A Collaborative Booth Featuring Select SoHo Design District Member Brands will Represent SDD at ICFF, with a Booth Designed by b-havior.

April 2019, New York, NY – The SoHo Design District, a neighborhood dedicated to innovative design and architecture brands and experiences host its fifth annual SoHo Design District Night on May 18, 2019, starting at 6 pm in select member showrooms in SoHo. Participating showrooms will highlight their latest products and unique content to invited guests.

In addition, the SoHo Design District has commissioned creative firm b-havior to design its booth to showcase select member showrooms at ICFF, May 19-22, 2019, at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City. Located in booth #2765, the setup will feature new furniture, lighting, flooring, décor accessories, and other product introductions from the following brands: Gandia Blasco, Vibia, Original BTC, Interior Define, Atelier Alain Ellouz, Ligne Roset, Studio Anise (with Freifrau) & Ingo Maurer.

"After five strong years of hosting our annual design night in SoHo we are amazed by the outpouring of support of our ever-growing membership. It’s an honor to bring great design to the community by continuing to serve SoHo’s long tradition as an international destination for design, art, culture and architecture. We are also delighted to partner with ICFF again this year to expand our common goals of design inspiration," states SoHo Design District President and founding member, Dahlia Latif.

As testament to the strength of the program, every year membership expands with companies joining that have recently moved to SoHo or are long-time residents. 2019 is no exception with newcomers, ateliernovō, Atelier Alain Lane, One Kings Lane, The Webster, and Vibia (inside Gandia Blasco showroom) while Cappellini, Cassina, Ligne Roset, Ochre, and Poltrona Frau, neighborhood stalwarts, also came on board.

Participating showrooms product highlights include:

- Artemide:

o The Gople Lamp by Bjarke Ingels Group

o “0” by Elemental, an “attempt to reconcile the needs of the natural and the urban environment…”

o Huara by Elemental is equipped with a touch sensor, with each section independently dimmable.

o Discovery Space by Ernestor Gismondi.

- Atelier Alain Ellouz:

o OSLO Alone or in clusters, Oslo’s glowing rings shine in space. Its light weight is played up by soft leather fasteners.

o SOHO The union of these shimmering twins, joined by a subtle metal interior ring, mixes cohesion and originality to the whole composition.

o INFINITY Vibrant, mobile and resolute, the Infinity is a silhouette in motion, it's ondulant contours metamorphose at every angle, flirting with the beholder's eye.

o SUMATRA plays with verticality. This cylinder makes all your wishes come true: in single suspension, it seems to be firmly floating in the air.

o LUNA A rod, a sphere. Its simplicity is its force. Luna, the collection’s icon, has already inspired vast numbers of arrangements playing on size, number and the height of the drop.

- ateliernovō: (Pop-up Shop May 8-24)

o Mussell are the newest sculptures by French Master Sculptor Dominique Pierrat. 'Mussel' are made of lacquered lime tree with gold leaf and are inspired by natural elements as part of his Shell collection. The artist will be in attendance May 18.

o Arbre Vert by Julie Bergeron This large green stoneware tree (3'5" high) is the latest creation by ceramicist Julie Bergeron. The organic forms and rich textures express the intense beauty of nature. This freeform sculpture seems to have sprung up spontaneously like trees in the forests of the artist's native Quebec.

o The traditional French milking stool by La Chaise Française is revisited in a decidedly 21st century design. An innovative alliance between wood and acrylic glass creates furniture that navigates between rustic tradition and unabashed modernity.

- Cappellini:

o Cappellini presents the 2019 Collection during NYCxDESIGN with projects by Shiro Kuramata, Jasper Morrison, Giulio Cappellini, Brogliato Traverso and Carlo Colombo.

o One highlight of the new collection is the seating system Cap Martin Sunset by Carlo Colombo.

- FLOR:

o Do Re Mi is where classic and contemporary come together. This antelope pattern blends beautifully for a smooth and seamless look.

o Hello Dottie: we’re seeing spots! This refined Dalmatian print design adds a classy yet cool

- Fritz Hansen:

o Perfectly proportioned with a solid frame available in natural oak, stained oak and black ash, the JH97 lounge chair by Jamie Hayon features an open, low-slung silhouette and has a contemporary feel despite its classic roots. Elegant from every angle, the decorative joints with gently rounded edges are assembled by hand in a nod to Danish heritage designs and craftsmanship tradition.

- Gandia Blasco | GAN:

o TIMELESS is the outdoor furniture collection inspired by the rational architectural language from the early 20th century, designed by José A. Gandía-Blasco Canales and Borja García. Its design of discreet but characterful forms communicates honesty, without any unnecessary ornament other than its structure.

o BUIT is the new outdoor furniture collection designed by Mayice Studio, featuring aluminium, which after researching its resistance and ergonomics, is used to create pieces that form a modular collection including a simple armchair and a pouf made from an aluminium mesh, woven with a special padded textile for the outdoors, Febrik Kvadrat.

o True to their curiosity and willingness to explore the hidden side of mundane objects, Yael and Shay, from the London-based studio Raw-Edges, have created the BACKSTITCH rug collection for GAN, which turns traditional embroidery upside-down and reveals the beauty of its seemingly messy reverse. BACKSTITCH focuses on that ambiguous and irregular universe of stitches, without which the front side, designed to be seen, could not exist.

o Investigating new materials to achieve new textures and effects, developing new techniques to make crafts evolve... that’s what defines GAN. And with NUANCES, the new collection by Patricia Urquiola, the designer captures, with the expertise that characterizes her, the essence of the brand. Each piece of NUANCES is entirely sewn by hand by skilled artisans, as is always the case with Urquiola designs for GAN.

o Abstrakt Mona tables are a Diabla design featuring graphics by Jonathan Lawes. Two different graphic styles based on his characteristic geometric and colorful designs that Jonathan Lawes applies to the table tops for the single leg Mona tables.

o D12 collection, designed by Marià Castelló, appears as a collection of structures. Simple and straightforward frameworks conceived for practical ends. Elemental constructions taking the form of structures supporting different elements: a shelf, a hangar or a table. They are however all self-contained in their own right: sometimes appearing as a fluid floating frame like the base of the tables, others like a nest of lines that appear to be caught in movement, moving in different directions.

o The elegant and curved forms that define the SOLANAS outdoor furniture distinguish the new pieces, including Cocoon. The SOLANAS collection was designed by Daniel Germani. It adds new pieces to the collection conceived for enjoying the outdoors and it was inspired by his childhood memories from holidays spent on the beaches of Uruguay.

- Ingo Maurer:

o La Festa delle Farfalle designed by La Festa delle Farfalle, includes 34 butterflies and one dragonfly made of paper. Three bulbs like pears on a porcelain plate. LED's integrated in the plate provide up and down-light.

o Oop's designed by La Festa delle Farfalle is a strip of paper pinned to the wall. The light source is hidden in the lower end. It combines the spontaneous expression of a ready-made with a very appealing curved shape that allows soft light to fall through paper. Paper by Gmund, steel, plastic. Stylepark selected.

o With the small wall lamp OOP'S 2, paper sets the tone again, naturally, sustainably and elegantly. The 300g/sqm of paper that unfold on the wall come from the Bütten papier fabrik Gmund. The filigree paper lamp is attached to the wall in a few simple steps. The concealed light source can be replaced by the user himself. Thanks to its versatility, it can be used not only in private environments, but also in all other homely areas.

- Interior Define:

o It’s all in the family for the Gray Kids Collection, a collaboration inspired by Interior Define’s favorite power couple, Monica Royer of Monica + Andy and Interior Define founder Rob Royer. We think ID’s custom furniture and Monica + Andy’s prints make a perfect pair.

- Lee Broom:

o Lee Broom will debut his new lighting collection, LITTLE LENS FLAIR, a smaller version of Lee Broom’s popular spherical lighting piece that launched during New York Design Week in 2018. The smaller version is designed to work in residential as well as hospitality environments, as an individual light or within a cluster.

- Luceplan:

o Lita by David Dolcini: The diffuser in opaline blown glass – whose surface is scanned by the repetition of slight vertical cusps that vanish at the extremities – is combined with a wooden or aluminum structure, making Lita a product with a forceful material character. A timeless and evocative object that combines the crafts tradition with technical research, seductive in its way of matching visual and tactile sensations.

o Trypta by Stephen Burks is a system of suspension lamps consisting of a cylindrical body composed of three acoustic panels positioned at 120 degrees. Trypta adapts perfectly to any space thanks to two separately activated light sources connected to the extremities of a central column, to provide both dire and indirect lighting.

o Compendium Circle by Daniel Rybakken is a lamp with a poetic nature and an essential design, whose lightness is sustained by LED technology, installed to permit direct emission when pointed downward, or diffused light when aimed upward.

- Michele Varian:

o Balance Study Pillows are based on the corresponding "Balance Study" paintings by Michele Varian, the new Balance Study Pillows no. 1, no. 2 and no. 3 make up the designer's most recent collection of textile goods.

o The Fleurish Chandelier is inspired by organic occurrences in flora – honeysuckles, stamen, water lilies, thorns, knobby branches, and the grotesquely pretty twistiness of an olive tree trunk—the elements of the three-tier chandelier engage every plane of vision.

o The Fleurish Sconce is a modern, organic lighting fixture designed by Michele Varian and built in the brand’s NYC studio. It is solid brass construction with glass accents, inspired by flora from Japanese imagery.

- Nanimarquina:

o In addition to adapting existing collections for the outdoors, an exclusive line is introduced: Oaxaca; inspired by traditional rug design, simple geometric shapes mixed with brightly colored flowers bring a contemporary and daring piece.

o Capas, designed by Mathias Hahn, arises from the desire to create a rug that focuses on layers of colors, tonality and shadow, to create intense depth while also being easy enough to blend into any environment and space. The designer’s aim was to create a simple and light rug that has a casual feel while being complex in the use of colors and formation of depth.

- ORCHRE:

o Gaia Double Tier Pendant consists of 3 solid glass drops illuminated by LEDs, blackened nickel cap or antique brass cap with matching arm, canopy and counterweight.

- Original BTC:

o Ten Years of the London: A Bauhaus-Inspired Classic. Launched in 2009, the British-made London was the first light designed by Charlie Bowles, son of Original BTC founder Peter Bowles. Today, the London – alongside Peter’s bone china Hector – are two of the British manufacturer’s best-selling designs. Assembled by hand at Original BTC’s headquarters near Oxford, the London features a spun aluminum semi-sphere shade with a solid chromed base. Matching cotton braided flex is woven through the curved chrome arm for a neatly tailored finish. The London table light is available in black, yellow and putty grey, priced $1,005.

- Studio Anise:

o Janua Monolith Table, by Stefan Knopp, Edition bei Janua, is made of one piece of wood, charburned and limed if requested. Monolith is a perfect example of Janua's strong commitment to craftsmanship and modern design.

o Birgit Hoffmann and Christoph Kahleyss’ design is a fusion of contrasts. Leya is a perfectly formed chair featuring an elegant, firmly upholstered outer shell on a delicate wire or solid wood frame. With its congenial mix of material and color, Leya has all the makings of a unique designer piece. The Leya collection is complete with lounge chairs, armchairs, chairs, stools and swings.

o Piani Lungo by Kai Byok is available in 96, 140 or 195 cm lengths and is ideal for many rooms in your home, producing a homogeneous, pleasing light from its high-quality LEDs (dimmable). The Piani Collection of pendants is offered in round (Rundo) and single bar (Mono) versions in varying dimensions as well. All Piani fixtures are available in several finishes.

o It’s a proven fact that swaying back and forth in a rocking chair puts you in a good mood. The Leya Rocking Chair and Wingback Rocking Chair lets you do just that. Designers Birgit Hoffmann and Christoph Kahleyss took plenty of time to make the chair just right, especially when it came to shape the rockers. The curved bands allow the perfect amount of movement while the classic Leya Lounge Chair seating shell offers elegant design characteristics, stability and comfort.

o Lucie Koldova has designed her first upholstered chair for Freifrau inspired by current fashion and the loose upholstery of other Freifrau chairs. The result is Celine, in which the transition from tightly stretched to loosely gathered material highlights adds unquestionable elegance and unique look.

o Designs by Sebastian Herkner bear his own distinctive signature and clearly demonstrate his attitude to quality, function, material, craftsmanship and longevity. Sebastian Herkner Ono dining chairs and Stools for Freifrau exemplify his interpretation of the Freifrau approach: something a little more elegant and less casual. His design, bearing the name Ona, represents a concept of reduced elegance – which quietly resonates and is not too obvious – a harmonious composition of quality and elegant curves.

- Studio Anise //Rolf Benz U.S. Flagship Store:

o The Rolf Benz VOLO sofa system (individual pieces or sectional) is the ideal companion to our flexible life. It offers contemporary design elegance, Rolf Benz luxury and ultimate comfort. the system flexibility allows the sofa to be redesigned to fit your space perfectly.

- Tom Dixon:

o OPAL is a family of translucent globes using the brand’s own custom recipe of tinted white Opalescent polycarbonate. Semi translucent, they maintain an ethereal ghostliness in the daylight and at night form a perfectly illuminated sphere. Coupled with our new dimmable Tom Dixon LED, the OPAL range emits a soft, diffused and flattering light. The OPAL family includes two pendant lights, two floor lights and a surface light.

o Fat, the new upholstery chair range, is designed to hug the body and allows for multiple sitting positions. Available as a dining chair, bar stool and lounge chair, the extreme simplicity of the components is a testament to form following function, whilst maintaining a humorous silhouette and a reductionist aesthetic. Quite a balancing act!

- The Webster:

o This luxury multi brand retailer has launched The Webster Home - a curation of interiors and lifestyle objects for the home. Working in collaboration with Laure Heriard Dubreuil, Creative Director of The Webster Home, Parisian architect and designer Stephane Parmentier. Sourced on his global travels, each object found within The Webster Home has a story and is one of a kind. It is a collection of unique pieces for the home which will constantly evolve throughout the year across all categories including tableware, decorative objects and furniture.

- Vibia: (Pop-up Shop May 2019)

o The design of Palma wall sconce by Antoni Arola has at its origin the beauty of hanging gardens. It introduces flora combined with indoor lighting, aimed at creating a sense of wellbeing, calm and cheerfulness into our daily environments. Essential, minimal shapes and materials combine the organic and the immateriality of light. Varying scales available with or without planters and blown glass spheres illuminated by LED.
