Jupiter, FL – New York, New York - August 9th, 2018 – Chekari Trading Company, the Made in Africa hand-painted ceramics company, announces today the introduction of The Belinda Mary Collection to the US market, joining The Chekari Collection, which until now has only been offered in several select exclusive retail establishments. Both Collections will showcase at NY Now to establish wider retail distribution.
Sue Price, wife of Hall of Fame Golfer Nick Price, established the brand – CHEKARI™ - and its import company, the Chekari Trading Company, to create a legacy for her beloved sister Belinda Mary, who passed away in 2017, by continuing her passion for her work. “My sister and I grew up loving the majesty of our birthplace Zimbabwe, the wildlife, the people, the landscapes, the sunsets, it’s almost indescribable,” said Sue Price, CEO of Chekari Trading Company. “Belinda expressed her love through making available beautiful hand-painted ceramic tableware that represents the beauty of Zimbabwe through the eyes of the local artists that lovingly paint them. I chose to carry on her work and look forward to sharing our Collections with international markets, starting with the US.”
“We showcased CHEKARI at our Spring Trunk Show and it generated a lot of buzz,” said Michelle Kempe, Director of Retail for the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo Florida. “Sales were brisk, and people really appreciated the fine artisanship and the uniqueness of both collections. I really liked the bright colors and the jungle animals, collectors will love these.”
Chekari Trading Company currently imports two collections with multiple lines in each collection. The Belinda Mary Collection, designed by Sue Price’s sister Belinda, incorporates a more traditional tableware palette with African birds, flowers and wildlife. The Chekari Collection brings Africa to life with the vibrant colors of jungle animals and native foliage. All pieces in both collections are one-of-a-kind works of art, no two pieces are the same. They are individually crafted by more than a dozen artists from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. The artists are self-employed and take pride in their work and their economic independence, giving them a meaningful place in the local communities.
Chekari Trading Company has pledged a portion of its profits to make charitable contributions to Africa and Zimbabwe. It currently has two non-profit foundations it contributes to, The Children in the Wilderness Project and SAVE African Rhino Foundation.
