United Lens Company in Southbridge, Massachusetts has taken delivery on a new QED Q-FLEX 300 system, adding magnetorheological finishing (MRF) capability to their state-of-the-art optical shop, led by manager Christian Ramos. MRF systems built by QED are an amazing, groundbreaking technology that uses magnetically sensitive "smart fluid", CNC controls, and easy to use computer interfaces to finish polished optics rapidly and efficiently. This will allow United Lens to speed up some processes that may have needed more time on traditional polishing paths, allow for less fall-out or re-work, and enable us to work on projects we have not had the capability to work on previously.
