KNOG LAUNCH INTO OUTDOOR CATEGORY

KNOG LAUNCH INTO OUTDOOR CATEGORY

Knog, the Australian product design brand, is launching its new look category mix – with an expanded range of products beyond cycling - to become a true outdoor brand. Two segments within the generic ‘outdoor’ market are a focus for Knog, to begin with.

CUSTOMERS

1/ Camping and hiking: with their PWR ecosystem of products, you might start with a modular flashlight – there are 3 to choose from up to 2000 lumens – and then use the PWR Bank included in that product, to power other products in the range which include the PWR Lantern, PWR Headtorch, and PWR Sound (portable Bluetooth speaker). Also perfect for after dark campsite convenience is the Bandicoot silicone USB headlamp, and the Plus light – a wearable light that can be mounted anywhere round the campsite.

2/ Running: Both the Bandicoot and the Plus light are perfect for running. The Plus is a wearable light that can attach to shirt, sweatband, waistband of shorts, or front and back of socks. The Bandicoot is a silicone headlamp, which allows the band and chassis (battery and LEDs) to be merged. Less bulk means less bouncing around – perfect for runners. In fact many Melbourne-based global runners have been blown away by both products, with Nike+ Running Club head coach gives his first impressions of the Bandicoot:

“First thing I noticed was how ridiculously light it is. No strings you have to tighten, or a big light unit knocking around on your forehead. No-one seems to be doing this minimal but aesthetically-savvy approach”. (Kieran Ryan, Nike+ Coach, Melbourne)

PRODUCTS (include, but not limited to…)

“Save The Bandicoot” (on Kickstarter)

Knog have used Kickstarter to market-test products 3 times now. The latest was a one month campaign for The Bandicoot headlamp which has just finished on June 9. It was the highest-funded headlamp in kickstarter history, here are the stats:

  • $317K+ pledges
  • 5589 backers
  • 1587% funded
  • Average pledge = $56.80
  • Standard price = AUD $29 on Kickstarter (RRP = AUD$44.95 / USD $34.95)

+ (“plus”)

The Knog+ “plus” light is a game changer for runners and cyclists due to its multi-function not hindering its quality and style. See video. Chip On Board (COB) LEDs, a magnetic mount for bike, hiking or tent pole, and a wearable design, this light will work on your ride, plus your run, plus your hike, plus your camp, plus…

PWR

Pronounced “power” it is an ecosystem of outdoor products that use the same battery. Just like modular power tools such as Ryobi ONE+, once you get your hands on one battery, you can power each product. But more than that, each battery in the system works as a power bank to charge other devices and other PWR products in the future.

“It’s such an obvious idea really” says Knog’s CEO, Hugo Davidson. “Save space, weight, money and the environment by using the same battery. And not just the single battery for the whole system, but modular parts too. Put the flashlight-head on your PWR headtorch. Add more batteries to reload and go longer. But at a minimum, get more use from your gear by having a power bank on you at all times”.

What’s more, Knog’s “ModeMaker” desktop app allows you to program the flashlight, bike light, and headtorch light. Brighter, longer, different flash patterns – you have control like with no other lighting system.

MODULAR PWR

Knog are proud that this is “not just another flashlight” for four reasons:

1. Go Configure! Tailor your product to the brightness, runtime, weight, mount and investment that suits your ride. See how knog.com.au/pwrconfigurator

2. Battery doubles as a true “PWR Bank” with USB port to charge your Garmin, GoPro, or phone.

3. ModeMaker app – a free desktop app which let’s you redesign your flash patterns and constant modes, plus control the number of modes on the light.

4. Bike and Outdoor. A headtorch, speaker, flashlights and camping lantern launching in 2018 all use the same battery as the bike lights launched in 2017.
