Small Business Educates Children and Provides Jobs to the Women of Benin, West Africa

Marina Del Rey, CA – July 18th 2018 – Out of Africa®, the original Shea butter company, manufactures high quality, Shea butter based body and skincare products; bar soaps, lip balms, Shea butter, lotions and creams.

Out of Africa® is a corporate sponsor of the Benin Education Fund (BEF) that helps educate children and care for their medical needs. Corporate partners include Google, IBM and the Peace Corp.

Victor Lulla, founder of the company, began the efforts by building a small factory in the former French colony of Benin. The factory has created local jobs for the people, and now the company owned factory can produce over 250,000 Shea bars of soap monthly. Our company factory collaborates with a number of women’s cooperatives that supply our Shea butter.

For over 20 years the Benin Education Fund (BEF) has helped underprivileged children attend grammar school as well as complete their high school education. Not only has Out of Africa® helped support high school students, a number of the students have gone one to achieve degrees in higher education. The program has sent a number of students to foreign countries to study medicine, law, and journalism. There is now two students attending medical school in both the United States and Canada. In 2015 the schools sponsored by Out of Africa® boasted an average graduation rate of double the nation’s average.
