LM Art Licensing Limited ‘Nature Inspired Design’
LM Art Licensing Limited represents the entire collection of British wildlife illustrations hand painted by Lynette Merrick, an Ecologist and wildlife illustrator. With over 1,000 illustrations available from common British butterflies, birds, land and water insects, fungi, grasses, trees and shrubs, fruits and seeds and wildflowers, each illustration either singularly or in combination has the potential to create endless design possibilites for product and surface design.
The collection was not started until Lynette was in her 50’s, following completion of an MSc. in Conservation and running her own field studies centre. She spotted a gap in the market and designed and produced her own British wildlife illustrated identifiction guides. Not one to let the grass grow under her feet, as a result of her deep appreciation and love of nature, she was inspired to start sculpture in her 60’s and is currently exhibiting some of her wildlife sculptures at an exhibtion in the south of England. Now in her late 70’s she continues with sculpture, both creating and teaching and also owns and manages her own small mixed woodland for wildlife.
In addition to all of this, following the loss of her husband of 52 years, four years ago she moved into, renovated and currently lives in an English Victorian clock tower, part of which forms a 38 foot, gravity fed pendulum clock, which is one of the finest working examples of its time. It has now been fully restored and rings out on the hour exactly as it did 150 years ago.
The company was set up by Lynette’s daughter Rachel in 2017, who having watched this collection amass over the years, felt a stong urge to take her mothers extensive library and create a commercial platform which would allow third parties to access this fantastic resource.
There are not many daughters who are given such an opportunity and even less who have the privilege of a phenomenally creative and productive mother, who still to this day is seeking her next challenge. Rachel now understands why her father said with great endearment that ‘living with Lynette was like living with a wasp, constantly on the go and forever moving and exploring new areas’ Lynette is truly unique and this is her legacy.
