With close to a decade of experience in fashion wholesale (including private labelling, which enables brands throughout the US and abroad grown their fashion line), Mono B has become the leading activewear, athleisure, swimwear, and loungewear designer and manufacturer, with a comparable quality as the more expensive companies, but a fraction of the price.
Mono B (and sister company Mind Code) is the brainchild of Chris Chon and Mary Jane Chon, a husband-and-wife team.
Back in 1998, the Chons opened Citiwear, a retail store for the young-contemporary market in San Bernardino. They were successful, but they realized the products they were selling were also being sold in the Fashion District by many retailers. They decided to design and manufacture their own apparel, and thus in 2006, Mind Code was born. They opened the Mind Code wholesale shop in the Fashion District, with products such as graphic t-shirts and fast-fashion wear that appeal to a younger market (female, 16-24 years old).
Mary Jane and Chris built the Mind Code brand for years , so when they started doing more activewear, athleisure wear, tie-dye dresses, and mineral wash items, they decided to start fresh. This became Mono B. The first Mono B store opened in 2011, separate from Mind Code, but also in the Fashion District.
In January 2017, Mono B and Mind Code opened their brand new store at the new location (747 E 10th St #107, Los Angeles CA 90021). Chris oversees the operational aspects, while Mary Jane designs the apparel.
"The Fashion District is where people go to," Chris explains. Indeed, our clients aren't only from the US, but also from Barbados, Canada, and Australia.
Mono B and Mind Code share the same philosophy. Mono means one and "B" stands for "Basic." The name suggests that there's one basic route to and for everything, and that is goodness. Mary Jane and Chris apply this rule not only to their products (affordable prices with outstanding customer service without compromising quality), but also to the employees. Mary Jane and Chris believe in humility, which is the way to have a good heart.
For Mind Code, Mary Jane and Chris believe there's a code - a wavelength, if you will - that allow humans to interact with one another without confusion, and again, that code is simply goodness.
The inspiration to start doing activewear came from Star Trek. The fashion of the future should be functional as well as fashionable. This idea of comfort and function is adopted by Mono B's activewear line. Apart from active people, Mono B is actually comfortable enough to wear to just lounge around the house (hence the term "athleisure"). Even the smallest details should be functional. Every seam should be flattering. Every design choice has to serve a purpose. As a result, our activewear has been worn by dancers, athletes, yogis, pilates trainers, and has stood the test of wear and tear (as well as sweat).
Mono B and Mind Code are available at stores around the US and select international stores in Australia, Canada, the UK, and the Barbados. Mono B has also helped multiple businesses, both big and small, in the US and international, grow their fashion collection through Mono B private label program.
