K2 partners with the ingredient brand clim8 for its first intelligent thermal baselayer

The first intelligent thermal baselayer powered by clim8 technology has been released by K2 in South-Korea , early November 2017. “After years of research on thermal needs, we are finally able to offer users a technology that knows exactly when and how to optimize their thermal comfort ” said Julien GUERITEE, who holds a PhD in Thermophysiology, and is the co-founder and R&D Director of clim8.

Paired with an app, the garment is truly intelligent

The shirt works with an app that monitors the user skin temperature through tiny embedded sensors in the fabric. The system is able to determine the ideal skin temperature, and adapt to it, by bringing heat whenever the user needs it. “With the remote app, we collect data that enables us to shape thermal profiles according to personal characteristics” says Florian MIGUET, co-founder and CEO of clim8. “Today, there are not intelligent garments with the ability to keep you warm automatically, and according to your profile, activity or environment”. This technology which received the Golden ISPO Award 2017/2018 in the Performance category is being integrated in the outdoor industry for sportwear garments, but also in other fields such as manufacturing industries or military forces in cold environments.

A user-centric technology

Completely user-centered, clim8 has already led one testing campaign in december 2016 with ISPO Innovation Platform. More than 1800 hours of testing by 36 testers from 6 countries helped the R&D department better understand the insights of the users, by listening to their feedbacks. Launching this first baselayer with K2 is a success for the ingredient brand that is reaching a mature market where wearables are already into users' habits. The baselayer is available in over forty K2 stores in South Korea, and will be available for men in different sizes (M, L, XL and 2XL).
