This winter, ARTĚL – the globally renowned producer of luxury crystal couture – is introducing JUNGLE DECO, a meticulously detailed new design motif that lends an exotic taste of the tropics to any home décor setting.
With its boldly stylized depiction of leafy palm trees, spiky lotus plants, and trailing vines, the newly available motif effortlessly evokes a lush jungle scene, making it especially suitable for al fresco dining on hot summer evenings. At the same time, the precision and intricate detail of the hand-engraved imagery that surrounds each piece makes JUNGLE DECO more than appropriate for even the most formal occasion.
According to ARTĚL founder / director Karen Feldman, one source of inspiration for the new motif was Maurice Sendak’s illustrations in his classic children’s book Where the Wild Things Are, a favorite from her childhood. Another was Karl Lagerfeld’s cutting-edge set design for Chanel’s spring 2015 couture collection show at the Grand Palais in Paris, which featured an elaborate jungle arboretum made entirely of white cardboard and brightly colored paper.
“From the moment I saw Lagerfeld’s ingenious set design for the Chanel show, I knew at once that I needed to make a motif that would convey a similar sense of elegant wildness,” says Feldman. “The new design achieves that goal and adds a touch of Art Deco-era sensibility to create a look that is timelessly chic. It is one of those motifs, like our popular VERDURE, that is absolutely perfect in any color and appears at home in a wide range of settings.”
