HAIKU CATS’ quirky line of paper products began with the creation of the HAIKU CATS gift book, published by Kitty Boy Productions (ISBN# 978057811612). The HAIKU CATS Book ($22) is a 6" x 6” delicately embossed, soft-cover 96-page book printed by Donahue Printing in Los Angeles with Cougar Natural stock and soy-based pigments on a lithographic press. Independent publication of the book and products was chosen to ensure use of the highest quality materials and production valueswhile still providing affordable retail pricing. Interest in the book has also spawned a growing line of related stationery products, including over 40 unique greeting cards, 25 pre-matted 8”x10” prints, greeting and gift card boxed sets, (15) 2.75" x 2.75" 2-sided “Hai-U” cards (the original Tweet!) sold individually or all together in a reusable muslin pouch, a 13-page wall calendar, plus a few NSS 2018 surprises.
Artist/Author C.B. Fraser grew up in a house full of kids, dogs, hamsters, bunnies, turtles and fish; butno cats. She was well into “adulthood” before she discovered the charm of felines. A chance encounter witha charismatic old alley cat (Kittyboy) led her down an unexpected creative path. “It was on this journeythat I realized the true meaning of ‘rescue’ animals,” says Fraser. “They are creatures put on Earth tosave humans from themselves by affording us the experience of unconditional love; and in the case ofcats, teaching us not to take ourselves too seriously. I’d say HAIKU CATS is an expose of feline behavior(the good, the bad, the snuggly) with an underlying bit of commentary on the human condition.”
Fraser’s cat collages are a confluence of antique Japanese prints, scissors, ink and an artist who loves nothing more than the surprises lurking in the creative process. The haiku are inspired by feline behavior in all its grace and aberration. When the artist is not cutting up paper, patting cats, or napping, she can be found teaching Taoist yoga and reflecting on her great good fortune.
