NSS 2018

Geneva, March 2018, Caran d’Ache will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of its Supracolor Soft collection.

To mark the occasion, 30 new limited-edition colours have been added to the range of 120 water-soluble pencils. With this collection of 150 Supracolor Soft shades, the Swiss company specializing in writing and drawing instruments continues to demonstrate its passion for infinite creativity and technical excellence.

Thirty years – thirty new, exclusive colours

The development of the thirty new, original shades is the result of several months of research and creative reflection by the master craftsmen at the Geneva-based company. Calling on Swiss manufacturing tradition, they took up the technical challenge of incorporating infinitely pure, rare or mineral pigments.

Carried out with genuine passion, this experimental work gave rise to a selection of original, intense colours ranging from cobalt violet through Naples ochre and ultramarine pink to terracotta – evocative names that immediately stimulate the imagination!

Intended for creative spirits, this range was developed in collaboration with artists who are brand ambassadors. The new colours were carefully selected to meet their artistic needs: a “nude” palette to bring portraits alive and an “earthy-tone” palette ideal for reproducing all the features of a landscape. In great demand among illustrators, a range of dark colours such as dark sap green, crimson aubergine and dark ultramarine has also been created.

There are almost ten mono-pigment shades, guaranteeing the utmost colour purity. The opacity of the colours also means the products are very long-lasting.

The quality of a colour lies in its purity. It must contain a limited number of pigments,” states Eric Vitus, Head of the colours research and development laboratory.

Supracolor Soft, the marriage of creativity and excellence

The Supracolor Soft collection is a worthy ambassador of the expertise and passion of the craftsmen at Caran d’Ache. The brightness of the colours and their unique covering power guarantee the quality of the range. Thanks to a high level of lightfastness, pencil drawings can be faded, blurred, textured by rubbing the lead on sandpaper or created as a full watercolour.

The Supracolor Soft collection ensures versatility for a wide range of uses: while it is usually used for portraits or landscapes, it is also the ideal instrument for technical drawing, colouring or even urban sketching. It is also water-soluble to create a watercolour impression or can be used dry.

With its elegant lines and the originality and force of its pigments, the new Supracolor Soft range is the perfect companion for the art of drawing so dear to the centenary brand. Boasting more than a hundred years of valuable know-how, Caran d’Ache designs and manufactures its instruments in its Geneva workshops in compliance with the quality requirements of the Swiss Made label and ecological standards and certifications.

From April 2018, the 30 exclusive Supracolor Soft colours will also be available in a stylish wooden box along with 30 existing shades from the standard collection.
