Recruiting the Next Generation of Building Engineers with Columbia REIT, BOMA Georgia & Able Services

Property Management is finding it more difficult to hire technical talent such as building engineers and in recent years the time required to fill these jobs has caused service disruptions.

The commercial real estate industry has a problem with the current workforce. It is estimated by some BOMA sources that 55% of building engineers will retire within the next 10 years. Join BOMA Georgia, Columbia REIT and Able Services on June 25th at 4pm in room 211 for the panel titled ‘Recruit the Next Generation of Building Engineers’ at BOMA International’s annual conference.

Building engineers are responsible for the operation and preservation of the real estate asset as well as delivering tenants a comfortable environment. Without adequate staff a building can cost more to operate and experience service failures.

To best address the labor shortage and be prepared for the future, the panel discussion identifies four learning objectives:

1. Learn to brand your company as a great place to work.

2 .Learn to encourage staff to tap into their networks by rewarding them.

3. Create a competitive compensation package that reflects your company culture and will be attractive to younger building engineers looking for a career which meets their interests, skills, and ability.

4. Demonstrate your company’s values and align it with today’s engineering and servicer workers.

The panel includes Lubie Martin of Columbia REIT, Gabriel Eckhart, Executive Director of BOMA Georgia and co-author of "From Insight to Action: Six New Ways to Think, Lead, and Achieve," Dawn Short, Sr. HR Business Partner at Able Services, and will be moderated by Mark Kelly, President of Able Services.
