Virginia (later known as Gina of the bakery) began working in a local bakery when she was twelve years old, walking three miles to her job every day to help support her family. In 1924 she opened the doors to Panificio Villa Bakery in Misano Adriatico Italy, a small village near the Adriatic Sea, just a few hours north of Rome. She had five hungry mouths to feed at home and needed to make more money. The hand made bakery goods were made from all natural and local artisanal ingredients. Her two sons joined in the bakery business to help it grow and reach a distant customer base. Her sons and grandsons continued the business. The tradition of hands on Baking continues today . The bakery is well known and supplies various fine bakery goods too much of Europe.
In 2008 Daniele Villa (Virginia’s grandson) struggled to create a perfect and unique Pizza crust , that was crispy and fluffy all in one using the same methods used by his grandmother. His many months of experimenting while the bakery was closed, produced his special recipe . The combination of a VILLA recipe for the very famous Roman Foccacia bread and Daniele’s special crispy crust produced the now delicious Pizza Bolla (bubble pizza). The final Crust consists of only five simple ingredients with no preservatives. The creation‘s success was due to the use of specific type and brand of the ingredients up to and including the water . Daniele then toiled with the timing and hand stretching of the ingredients. The 36 hours of rising , the exact oven temperature and time were the key to creating the perfect pizza crust. The crust was flash frozen and preserved at the exact time so that when you take it from the freezer and add your own quality topping it can be ready in less than five minutes in your own home oven.
In 2016, Bob Saurman (an admitted lifelong pizza eater) from California was visiting Misano Adriatico Italy .He was introduced to the bakery by friends and family of the Villa’s . He tasted Daniele’s special pizza and knew it had to be exported to the U.S to be enjoyed by the masses.
In early 2018 Pizza Bolla (Italian for Bubble) was introduced in the U.S. and is currently available. The wonderful taste and tradition of a hand stretched Italian pizza crust is yours to enjoy. The Pizza crust is still made in its true original form in Misano Adriatico Italy by the Villas, Ermes and his two sons Daniele and Emanuele. It is imported and distributed exclusively in the U.S. by B-Italian llc.
