EMFIT Rolls Out C-Series Quasi-Piezoelectric Coaxial Cable Sensor For New Solutions to More Smart Applications

EMFIT, the Finnish company known for its electroactive ferroelectret sensors, sensor-integrated systems and the EMFIT QS quantified sleep monitor, expands into new IoT areas with the introduction of the C-Series quasi-piezoelectrical coaxial cable.

EMFIT’s coaxial design ensures self-shielding for use in high EMI (electromagnetic interference) environments. It has a unique, strong electromechanical response from the cellular ferroelectret polymer, allowing compression, stretch or vibration to generate a charge or voltage proportional to the stress.

The cable can be spliced using standard coaxial splicing techniques. Extremely rugged, EMFIT’s C-Series cable stands up to heavy loads and water. It includes a narrow band of EMFIT’s proprietary electroactive material wound around the inner conductor comprised of 20 AWG stranded silver-plated copper wire. The cable is then braided, and jacketed with an extruded high-density polyethylene. Various lengths are available, with a standard spool of 50 meters.

“EMFIT is now positioned to offer a newly expanded range of IoT applications using the new

C-Series cable sensor with embedded signal acquisition electronics, mobile data connectivity, and EMFIT’s real-time over-the-Internet operating server software,” says Heikki Raisanen, EMFIT co-founder and CEO.

EMFIT’s C-Series™ coaxial cable sensing technology works for:

  • Vehicle classification and weigh-in-motion (WIM)
  • Security, such as fence and perimeter intrusion detection
  • Acoustic microphones and hydrophones
  • Structural and machine vibration monitoring
