EBSA to Standardize on Survalent ADMS Platform

Implementation will allow EBSA to deliver reliable, cost-efficient service to over

1.5 million people in Colombia

SAN ANTONIO, DistribuTECH 2018 — January 23, 2018 —  Survalent, a leading provider of advanced distribution management system (ADMS) software, today announced that Empresa de Energía de Boyacá (EBSA), a private electric utility headquartered in Tunja, Colombia, has standardized on the SurvalentONE ADMS platform to streamline operations and improve overall network reliability.

EBSA supplies electricity to more than 1.5 million people and numerous large industrial customers in the 123 municipalities of the Department of Boyacá, a 23,000-square-kilometer region in the central part of the country. It has been steadily expanding its use of SurvalentONE from an initial SCADA implementation, and will now also leverage the platform for both outage and distribution management.

“More and more utilities are standardizing on the SurvalentONE ADMS platform because it allows them to realize significant operating efficiencies and optimize network performance,” said Steve Mueller, president and chief executive officer of Survalent. “We’re honored that EBSA chose Survalent to help them deliver reliable, resilient, and safe electricity to the 1.5 million people in their service territory.”

One of the big advantages of the single platform is the centralized, real-time view into mission-critical data, making it far easier for EBSA personnel to collaborate and proactively respond to network interruptions.

The addition of Survalent’s OMS will give EBSA the ability to react more quickly to outages. The Mobile Crew Manager application will enable them to better coordinate field restoration efforts, while Call Handler will allow them to efficiently manage inbound customer queries, and communicate proactively with customers via the online Outage Portal.

Several SurvalentONE DMS applications will enable EBSA control room operators make informed, dynamic decisions to efficiently manage load and improve network reliability. The Volt/VAR Optimization application will make certain that acceptable frequency and voltage levels are maintained, while Power Flow will continuously monitor the EBSA network for overload conditions and issue warnings ensuring that minor problems do not develop into full-blown service interruptions. With FLISR (Fault Location, Isolation, and Service Restoration), they will have the ability to turn sustained outages into momentary ones by automatically locating faults, isolating them, and then rerouting power to customers in the non-isolated area within seconds.

Additionally, EBSA will be incorporating quad-redundancy into their SCADA system to minimize downtime risk and protect against lost profitability, productivity, and customer satisfaction.

“We expect that the implementation of the Survalent platform will allow us to improve the reliability and efficiency of our network for the benefit of our clients,” noted Roosevelt Mesa Martínez, general manager at EBSA.
