PROMPERU celebrates booth grand opening and launch of SUPER FOODS PERU brand at the PMA FRESH SUMMIT 2017

New Orleans, Oct. 20, 2017 – PROMPERU, Peru’s Export and Tourism Promotion Board, inaugurated its booth at the PMA Fresh Summit 2017 with an impressive culinary demonstration, as well as a ribbon cutting ceremony to unveil their SUPER FOODS PERU brand. Hundreds of attendees and journalists gathered at the booth to taste the delicious recipes and receive important information about Peru’s superfoods and fresh produce.

Representatives of PROMPERU and the different divisions participating in the expo cut the ceremonial ribbon to signal the official opening of Peru’s remarkable 1080-sq.ft. stand. Among the officials that inaugurated the stand were: Conrado Falco, Director of the OCEX of Peru in New York; Víctor Sarabia, Coordinator of the Agribusiness Department for PROMPERU; Sergio del Castillo, General Manager PROARÁNDANOS and PROCITRUS; Arturo Media, General Manager PROHASS; Ricardo Romero, Director of the Peruvian OCEX in Los Angeles; Sandro Farfán, General Manager PROGRANADA and Carlos Zamorano, General Manager of PROVID.

Chicken causa with avocado alioli, ceviche, surf and turf anticucho, mango mousse with chocolate dirt, blueberry mousse with toasted quinoa, and pisco sour, were among the gourmet creations that could be enjoyed by those attending the event.

"North America is one of our main markets and this event is very important for us, because it allows us to complete the launch of the SUPER FOODS PERU brand, while simultaneously beginning a new phase, the activation phase, directed to both the retail and the final consumer, in conjunction with Peru's commercial offices in North America. The 80-plus companies that are here accompanying the launch of this brand are helping to reinforce Peru's fresh produce growth trend in the world,” said Víctor Sarabia, spokesman and Coordinator of the Agribusiness Department for PROMPERÚ.

This way, Peru made a strong impression with its extraordinary export offer on the first day of the most important fruit and vegetable fair in America.

The United States is the main destination for Peruvian fruit and vegetable exports, including asparagus, avocado, grapes, and blueberries, part of the so-called “super foods,” which makes this event an excellent opportunity to position the SUPER FOODS PERU brand. The products showcased at this year’s summit were pomegranate, mango, blueberry, grape, avocado, asparagus and mandarin.

The consumption of “super foods” has become a worldwide trend among those who seek to naturally optimize the performance of food to face long working days, demanding physical training, and an active social life. Superfoods are defined as foods possessing superior nutritional values, including high levels of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, essential fatty acids, fibers, and more. They can be fruits, vegetables, seeds or herbs. Peru has “super foods” such as quinoa, purple corn, cañihua, maca and anchoveta, among others, foods that have great potential in the international market, as evidenced by the increase in exports of these products.

The United States is the main destination for our processed food exports with a 37% share in 2016, followed by Spain (US $ 151 million / + 21.1%), the Netherlands (US $ 58 million / 11.5%), France (US $ 52 million / -6.3%). Peruvian processed food exports to the United States reached US $ 160 million in the period from January to July 2017, which means a growth of 4.1% over the same period of the previous year.

"Our participation this year at the Fresh Summit with SUPER FOODS PERU will ensure that we maintain a strong presence in this market and strengthen our image as suppliers of excellent products that not only have nutritional qualities, but also provide other health benefits," said Sanabria.

The important Fresh Summit PMA 2017 fair will continue until Saturday, October 21st, receiving over 20,000 visitors and 1,000 exhibitors from more than 60 countries. This event brings together experts, leaders and decision makers at every link in the supply chain for the purpose of learning, networking and doing business. In addition, participating entrepreneurs can learn about the latest trends in the fruit, vegetable and fresh flower industry.
