California Cherries Business Update

By Tom Burfield

King Fresh Produce LLC, Dinuba, Calif., is making modifications to its cherry packing line to lessen bruising and enhance its photo optic equipment, said owner Keith Wilson.

“The modifications are fine-tuning our cherry line,” he said.

The company expects to ship 250,000 boxes of cherries from April 25 to May 25, a 20% increase over its usual production as a result of adding new growers, Wilson said.

King Fresh has added more Coral Champagne cherries, he said, which were planted four or five years ago and now are producing a crop.

The company also has hired Drew Clubb, who most recently was in the banking industry, as a salesman in its Missouri location.

Brock Wilson, who has completed his studies at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, has also joined the sales team.
