Data Links In Harsh Terrain Made Simple

Tactical Data Links - rapidly deployed, simple to use, effective and reliable are vital in modern military operations. Specifically, its roll-out in difficult, harsh terrain where a lack of ‘line of sight’ prohibits radio or wireless signals, remains a major hindrance.  Propensity of fibre-optic cable to damage is another constant and costly problem. That is why a new transmission technology, originated from collaboration with the Australian Army, providing simple, functional and cost and effective alternative.

Developed by Defence Communications Industry (DCI) a niche capability Melbourne SME, the new products allow transparent and secure data links at up to 60Mbs / 6Mi over copper cables (telephone wire or WD1A/TT). Operationally proven and simple to use, the new products provide an extremely effective alternative to fragile and costly fibre-optics, especially deployed in remote harsh terrain environment.  Based on SHDSL modulation technology the new products, ‘P4’ and ‘P2’ are fully field deployable with battery operation to 24Hrs and with miniature variants for man-pack or vehicle mount roles.  Complementing P4s are DCI high efficiency folding solar panels, enabling product operation in remote locations indefinitely.

The products represent 12 years of research in the field by a niche specialist company, including extensive trials and operational deployments by Australian, New Zealand, British and other Forces. Alec Umansky, product designer and company CEO says, we are very proud to have had the opportunity to design the product that solves a real problem and remain passionate about supporting a loyal customer base and closely meeting their demanding requirements in the future.

P4/P2 applications are diverse and can be used anywhere a rapidly deployed data infrastructure is needed including: Remote Command Posts, provision of Coalition, Government and other agencies data and voice infrastructure, as well as rapid restoration of infrastructure in case of natural or man-made disasters.

DCI designs, manufactures, supports and trains customers with a phenomenally low product attrition rate, of less than 2% over 10+ years of product life.

DCI products are unique, technologically advanced and represent the best of industry and Defence collaboration.
