Most accurate digital humidity sensor SHT35

Sensirion, the world’s leading provider of humidity, temperature and flow sensor solutions, is once again taking sensor technology to a new level. At the SensorsExpo 2016 in San José, the technology pioneer is presenting the SHT35 humidity sensor – the most accurate sensor of the versatile SHT3x series. As the market leader, Sensirion is launching an innovation that outperforms all similar sensors currently available.

The new SHT35 humidity sensor is the high-end version of the SHT3x series and has an outstanding accuracy of 1.5% RH (relative humidity) and a temperature accuracy of ΔT = ±0.2°C. Like all SHT3x series models, the sensor features increased intelligence and reliability. Its functionality includes enhanced signal processing, two distinctive and user-selectable I2C addresses and communication speeds of up to 1 MHz. The DFN package can be integrated into a broad variety of applications thanks to its footprint of 2.5 x 2.5 x 0.9 mm3 and the wide supply voltage range of 2.4 V to 5.5 V. Furthermore, the SHT35 sensor includes a configurable alert function, allowing it to be used as a humidity and temperature watchdog. Like all sensors by Sensirion, the SHT3x is based on the unique CMOSens® Technology, which integrates the sensing element and read-out electronics onto a single chip, enabling high production volume at an exceptional price/performance ratio.

Sensirion Launches New High-Accuracy Digital Temperature Sensor

Sensirion, the world’s leading manufacturer of humidity and temperature sensors, is presenting its new high-accuracy digital temperature sensor STS3x. The new STS3x temperature sensor is based on the same chip as the SHT3x humidity sensors and comes in a tiny eight-pin DFN package measuring only 2.5 × 2.5 mm2 with a height of 0.9 mm. Its tiny size and the wide supply voltage range of 2.4 V to 5.5 V allow for integration in a great variety of applications. The sensor delivers outstanding performance and a remarkably high accuracy of ±0.3°C over an extensive temperature range combined with low power consumption – an especially important consideration for battery-operated devices.

The industry-proven CMOSens® technology is the basis of the STS3x sensor, offering increased intelligence, reliability, and improved accuracy compared to its predecessors. Furthermore, the sensor demonstrates a very fast start-up and response time, and its functionality includes enhanced signal processing, two distinctive and user selectable I2C addresses and com-munication speeds of up to 1 MHz. The STS3x temperature sensor is calibrated to provide a linearized, digital output that is compensated for supply voltage instabilities. Qualification is based on JESD 47, with a dedicated automotive qualification plan certified according to AEC Q100. The alert option with definable temperature set points enables using the sensor as a watchdog and can thus strongly optimize overall power consumption.

The STS3x sensor is ideal for demanding data logger and temperature compensation applications. Due to its high accuracy, body temperature measurement in wearable devices and temperature calibration in automotive components are among the main target applications. In addition, a multitude of HVAC devices will benefit in terms of precision, power savings, and reliability when accounting for  highly accurate temperature data.

All in all, STS3x temperature sensors fulfill the most stringent requirements for many applications in terms of quality, performance, and cost-effectiveness, derived from Sensirion’s unique digital-sensor expertise of more than 15 years.

Protective cover for SHT3x humidity sensors

Sensirion, the world’s leading manufacturer of humidity, temperature and flow sensor solutions, now offers a protective cover for selected humidity sensors of the SHT3x series. The SHT3x protective cover is an optional polyimide foil directly attached to the top surface of the sensor. It covers the SHT3x’s complete sensing area and thus acts as a reliable shield against pollution during SMT assembly of the sensor and subsequent processes, such as conformal coating or potting. The protective cover is designed to withstand multiple reflow soldering cycles. To enable correct sensor operation, it must be removed after assembly.

A flap on the cover extends over the outer dimensions of the sensor package on one side and is designed to allow the cover to be peeled off easily with tweezers. After peeling off, the sensor will operate as specified in the datasheet. All typical conformal coating procedures, such as brushing, spraying or potting, can be used as long as the protective cover is attached. The cover will effectively protect the sensor opening from direct exposure to these coatings and other possible pollutants during the production process. More details on contamination and a list of suitable conformal coatings can be found in the document “Handling Instructions for Humidity Sensors”, downloadable from our website: www.sensirion.com/humidity-download.

World’s smallest differential pressure sensor opens up new applications

Sensirion, the world’s leading manufacturer of high-quality sensors for the measurement and control of humidity, gas and liquid flows, is presenting a genuine innovation – the world’s smallest differential pressure sensor. Sensirion’s new SDP3x digital differential pressure sensor measures just 5mm x 8mm x 5mm and opens up countless new integration and application possibilities, including for the measurement of air flows in medical technology or the consumer goods industry.

The new SDP3x differential pressure sensor is considerably smaller than other sensors in its segment. It can be built into devices which previously lacked sufficient space for any sensory technology at all. Thanks to the small sensor, existing devices can also be made considerably smaller. The new sensor is particularly suitable for portable or mobile medical devices in the field of home care (medical ventilation) or for products in the consumer goods industry.

The SDP3x sensor measures differential pressure and is ideal for the measurement of mass flow in a bypass configuration. And it’s not just its small size that's impressive – it also stands out thanks to its accuracy, long-term stability, and no zero-point drift. The new SDP3x is reflow solderable and available in a pick-and-place package on tape and reel for industrial manufacturing. The small sensor also offers fast signal processing and response time and includes various other digital functions such as multiple I2C addresses and interrupts. All of these new features make Sensirion's SDP3x series differential pressure sensor the perfect choice for cost-sensitive applications requiring high unit volumes.

The fully calibrated and temperature-compensated differential pressure sensors are available in a variety of versions. The SDP31 is digital with an I2C interface, and the SDP36 has an analog output signal. Both versions measure a bi-directional flow range of up to 500 Pa. In 2016, new products with extended measurement ranges and different features will be added to the SDP3x series. The different versions in the SDP3x series cater to all customer needs.

The SDP3x differential pressure sensor is manufactured with the latest generation of Sensirion's CMOSens® chips and is the cornerstone of the new sensor platform for measurement of differential pressure and gas flow. As with all sensors using the patented CMOSens® Technology, the SDP3x also integrates the sensor element and the evaluation circuit into a single CMOS silicon chip. The result is an ultra-precision system that offers long-term stability for sophisticated and cost-sensitive applications.
