SANTA CRUZ, CALIFORNIA – MARCH 10, 2015 – Redfish Instruments, Inc., a provider of wireless electronic test and measurement equipment, announced today that the US Patent Office has issued to them patent number 8,976,039. The patent relates to fundamental wireless connectivity between measurement instruments like multimeters and mobile devices. Among the claims granted in the patent is “a control device (mobile phone or tablet) for remotely controlling a measurement device (multimeter)… and a transceiver that wirelessly transmits a signal to a measurement device.”  The patent, first submitted in December 2010 as a provisional patent, represents one of the earliest patent submissions of the now pervasive Internet of Things (IoT), and the first related to remote display and control of measurement instruments via mobile devices.

According to Patrick O’Hara, President and CEO of the company, “The issuance of this patent validates our leading position in advancing connectivity of measurement instruments to mobile devices. Mobile devices provide a tremendous array of built-in mechanisms to visualize, store, and share data that simply was not possible several years ago. We are absolutely delighted to be the company to first bring these capabilities to the market and our customers.”

The new patented technology will be included in subsequent meters offered by Redfish Instruments. The patent covers implementations via WiFi, Bluetooth, ZigBee, and other wireless thechnologies.
