PICO generators from eldec: Mobile induction heating tuned to Process and Applications.

The technical advantages of eldec generators are well-known:  fast, accurate, precise energy control.  As important as the machine, though, eldec LLC’s emphasis on application and process solutions is the key to their success… and their end-users’!

Induction technology can be used whenever workpieces or components are heated to a pre-determined temperature for further processing. The areas of application for induction heating are diverse, ranging from the power generation and electrical equipment industries to automotive and aerospace.

The experts at eldec LLC, a member of the EMAG Group of precision machine tool companies, based in Auburn Hills, Michigan, has built their business on a precise and growing understanding of this wide array of applications. Along with their sister company based in Dornstetten, Germany, eldec has been developing sturdy, high-quality energy sources for inductive heating for over 30 years. With the new PICO series, these specialists now offer their customers another extremely compact and cost-effective device with a very broad range of performance capabilities, easy to use and easy to handle — a crucial factor for portable use.

“Less is more” is the age-old axiom noting that simplicity and clarity lead to good design. While it may be true that simple is not always the best, the best is always simple!  The same could be said for the PICO series: this compact induction device is streamlined with proven eldec technology and perfect for portable use.  The configuration of the machine’s central elements have been simplified to just the essentials—resulting in not only lower construction costs but also a lower investment price to the customer. “Our goal was to develop a standardized and cost-effective energy source that covered virtually all known areas of application. PICO is very simple and extremely easy to operate, yet the generator is still able to meet any demand. Ultimately, all you need to do is unpack it, plug it in and start heating,” said Stefan Tzschupke, Head of Generator Business Development at eldec.

Diverse areas of application
The eldec experts offer a broad selection of PICO to their customers. The generator comes in three sizes: PICO-S, PICO-M, and PICO-L. These can be configured as medium-frequency or high-frequency generators from 5 kW to 150 kW, depending on the model. They are equipped with an innovative new eldec control unit, proven inverter technology, and an intuitive, user-friendly operator interface.

Where and how are these devices primarily used? “Due to the extensive basic configuration, they have a very broad range of application. Even customers who need a portable generator for use on a construction site turn to the compact PICO range,” Tzschupke noted. The device is used, for example, during inspection and refurbishment at power plants or to heat the tension bolts on turbine casings. Another typical application is the heating of components and parts for subsequent joining processes, whether shrink fit and assembly or preheat for welding of rotor caps, crankcases, or automotive power plant components. The PICO series is also outstanding for standard tasks such as induction brazing.

“The PICO is just the latest example of refined, cost-effective engineering on the part of our German colleagues,” comments Dan Goers, Manager – Heating Systems at eldec LLC.  “We look at it as a team effort: combining state-of-the-art eldec German design with our local build of the induction generators.  Induction is limited only by your imagination!  We design and build Inductors (Coils) for applications all over America… and the world.  In addition to the eldec hardware, like the PICO and MICO generators, eldec LLC provides process solutions formulated right here, based on local know-how and time-proven experience in the North American marketplace.  We take great satisfaction in expanding the knowledge base of integrated induction solutions to our customers.”
