Michelin Reminds Drivers to Stay Safe This Winter

(GREENVILLE, S.C., and DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla., October 23, 2015) – Michelin wants to keep drivers safe by reminding them to change their wiper blades before the harsh winter weather hits. For optimum vision and the safest driving experience, Michelin recommends MICHELIN® Stealth® Hybrid® wiper blades with exclusive Smart-Flex™ Technology.

“It’s important to change your wiper blades before entering the winter months. The heat extremes of summer, along with ultraviolet (UV) and ozone exposure, may damage the rubber wiping element of the blade. This can lead to streaking and noisy wiping as temperatures drop,” said Will Young, vice president of Engineering and Quality at Pylon Manufacturing. “It’s a good practice to enter the winter season with new wiper blades to ensure optimum visibility during inclement weather. For the safest drive possible, select a hybrid blade.”

Traditional metal wiper blades, installed on many cars when new, have exposed suspension components that can freeze during winter conditions. Newer vehicles may include beam blades, featuring a pre-sprung steel beam designed specifically to that vehicle. However, many replacement beam blade designs are compromised to fit a large array of vehicle models and do not adapt to the varying curvature of windshields. This results in reduced wrap and contact pressure on the windshield as well as poor wiping performance.

MICHELIN® Stealth® Hybrid® wiper blades feature an exclusive Smart Flex technology that automatically adjusts wiper blade contact pressure across the curvature of the windshield to deliver outstanding blade windshield wiping performance.  Engineered for durable wiping in extreme weather conditions, the wiper frame and suspension system are completely covered to protect the blades from clogging with ice and snow. The MICHELIN® EZ-LOKTM Connector System allows for a quick and simple blade replacement.

For even safer winter driving, Pylon has redesigned its Michelin rear wiper blade for optimum visibility out the rear windshield. The improved rear wiper features an all-metal primary frame for greater durability in winter weather. Its MICHELIN® EZ-LOKTM Connector System attaches to most plastic arm types and allows for hassle-free installation.

“Don’t forget to replace your rear wiper when preparing your vehicle for winter,” said Young. “The newly redesigned Michelin Rear wiper blade allows for a clear view behind you, even in harsh weather conditions. To protect your passengers, you need to clearly see where other vehicles are on the road.”

Both MICHELIN® Stealth® Hybrid® and MICHELIN® Rear wiper blades will be featured at the Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo (AAPEX) at the Pylon Manufacturing booth #4238. For more information on Michelin wiper blades, visit www.michelin-lifestyle.com.
