The Lancaster Food Company Launches Its Local Certified Organic Sandwich Breads at Whole Foods in Devon, PA and Baltimore

The Lancaster Food Company starts delivery of its fresh certified organic sandwich breads this week at Whole Foods Harbor East and Whole Foods Mt Washington in Baltimore, and last week at Whole Foods Devon in Pennsylvania.

The only packaged organic breads carried by Whole Foods MidAtlantic with an 11-day shelf life and no added gluten, the company is enjoying a warm reception and fast adoption by Whole Foods customers.

Based in Lancaster, PA, the company's mission includes hiring people with barriers to employment out of poverty and into "thriving-wage jobs", a term the company coined and which is being adopted by social impact organizations across the US. 30% of the company is set aside for employee ownership, which is "the right thing to do," according to co-founder and CEO Charlie Crystle. "People should be paid an honest day's pay for an honest day's work. To us that's always meant better than living wages, which are scraping by wages. And our team should benefit from the wealth they help to generate, so everyone will have stock options. "

Lancaster's stunning poverty rate of 30% inspired the co-founders to start the company--along with their love of local organic foods and local sourcing. "We believe in treating people well. That means making great products without cutting corners on ingredients. You'll see we have no added gluten--just whole foods as ingredients. No citric acid--just a natural way of adding shelf life through natural ingredients."

The Lancaster Food Company can be found at Booth 8115 at Expo East.
