ROBERT ALLEN CONTRACT Introduces Quest, a Galactic Collection of Upholstery and Drapery for Contract Application

(MAY 2017) -- Inspired by celestial spaces, Robert Allen Contract introduces Quest, a collection born from new frontiers and technological innovation. Marrying the magnitude and nothingness of space, this new collection of drapery and upholstery goes beyond the scope of décor, meant to absorb, reflect, or diffract all other elements in a room. Masterfully curating a dynamic range of painterly designs and dramatic textures, Quest adds tactile dimension to any commercial space.

With a continued shift towards more streamlined fabrication styles, textile, texture and color take the center stage. In efforts to soften, provide texture and contribute to the acoustic comfort of a public or private space, dramatic floor to ceiling draperies are re-emerging in the world of design.

Dedicated to outer spaces’ opulent qualities, these fine jacquard constructions employ both vibrant and subdued hues that merge with rich, undulating patterns, producing refreshing and complex color combinations. Abstract patterns evoke fading eclipses, space-time distortions, cosmic nebulae, and utopian archways with a deft use of metallic including gold, silver, platinum, and rose gold. In patterns Stargate, Space Speckle and Star Cluster, fine tightly woven grounds recall silk with their smoothness, depth, and movement.

“The color story is a study of contrast between the high drama of an explosion and supersonic speed, expressed with heavy saturated colors and lighter, softer ethereal colorways symbolizing the serenity, nothingness and vastness of space.”
– Irena Peer, Director of Design

Quest collection also features Quest Choice Prints, comprised of 5 unique patterns, all developed in RA studio and printed on sheer and drapery grounds. Different painting and drawing styles from ink pen line drawing to etching to graffiti are collaged and layered in dynamic compositions, nimbly navigating between abstract and realistic to make an expressive artistic statement.

All the patterns are designed as 120”panels, but could be easily adapted. The collection is meant to showcase and promote Robert Allen Contract custom printing capabilities.

Key Colorways:
SUNRISE
From the rising of the morning sun comes Sunrise, a fashion color in this collection. Energizing and cheerful, bright orange is accented with a soft blue, evoke the feeling of an early sky.
TOURMALINE
The most colorful of all gemstones, when paired with a deep black color the blue/green hue pops and appear iridescent. This mysterious color brings to mind bioluminescence found in fireflies.
COBALT
Cobalt has been used since ancient times for jewelry and paints and was thought after by alchemists. Saturated and bold, it is a featured color of the Quest collection and can be graphic and powerful when paired with black and white, or enigmatic and alluring when paired with deep reds and purples. It remains magical and magnificent nonetheless.

QUEST DRAPERY:
SUPERSONIC
Impactful, large scale design that resembles sonic boom. Shiny yarns in a long cut satin construction seem embroidered on a dry ground. Ikat weave effect creates a static edge. Subtle color change of the space dyed yarns adds movement.
MOONRAKER
All over abstract design mimics a rock moon surface with high contrast between light and dark hues creating the appearance of a heavy texture. High yarn count construction allows for fine design details. Soft luxurious hand and beautiful drape.
AEROSPACE
Double beam pocket weave construction mixes thick and thin, shiny and matt yarns to create an accordion like effect, employing different tensions and heat settings to create movement.
DIGITAL VIBE
Distressed diamond design is created by the tight warp satin weave. Dry and shiny ground yarns form an all over textured surface that imitates peaks and valleys found on the surface of planetary matter.
SPACE SPECKLE
Fine warp satin with a high end silky hand and look. Subtle rib effect in the abstract motif. Strategically placed color accents enrich this sophisticated multicolor design.
COSMIC DUST
Abstract design evokes organic patterns of geodes and crystals. High yarn count construction allows for fine design details. Soft luxurious hand and beautiful drape.
STAR CLUSTER
High sheen yarns create a metallic foil effect with saturated colors and silky hand. Spraying stitches weave in the ground lends to crackle effect, while the shadow weave adds dimension.

QUEST UPHOLSTERY:
GROUND CONTROL
This visually dimensional abstract pattern is a cut face to face cross dyed velvet. Dry cotton and shiny polyester in the pile are used separately and together for a heathered effect.
AIRFRAME
Graphic, dynamic jacquard design imitates an ink pen drawing in high contrast color combinations. An end & end warp and pick & pick fill guarantee clarity of color.
EXOSPHERE
Luxurious boucle yarns in the motif are contrasted with a tightly woven opaque ground in a modern vintage design reminiscent of a fading sun or glowing atmosphere around a planet.
NANOFORM
Tri pick construction of thick chenille and thin shiny yarns create depth by building layers of texture. It appears to be an up-close view of a rocky surface.
MICROCOSM
Soft chenille fill yarns are layered over a shiny polyester warp in a dynamic all over pattern resembling the veiny surface of cut rocks.
SKYWALKER
Sprayed stitch weave effect helps create diffused, almost air brushed color in the woven "painting", that evokes cosmic dust clouds.
GALACTIC HALO
Different yarn thickness helps create variation with high and low texture. Contrasting colored rings capture an array of ecliptic celestial objects.
