Seawater intakes for desalination must ensure access to a reliable feedwater source while minimizing environmental impacts. As such, selecting the optimal intake approach for a given facility is a very site-specific endeavor; what works for one site is not necessarily transferrable to another. The balance between what is technically feasible, biologically effective, and economically viable is delicate. This panel session will bring together experts on surface and subsurface intakes to discuss the realities of identifying and implementing the best intakes for seawater desalination.
